Breast Firming (Mastopexy / Breast Lift)

Breast ptosis — the medical term for sagging breasts — is a natural consequence of aging, gravity, pregnancy and breastfeeding, significant weight fluctuations, and genetic factors affecting skin elasticity. Mastopexy, commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts to restore a more youthful, uplifted contour. At Amit Aesthetics in Aligarh, Dr. Amit Agrawal performs mastopexy with refined techniques that produce long-lasting, natural-looking results while minimizing scarring.

Ideal candidates for breast lift surgery are women who are satisfied with their breast volume but unhappy with the position and shape of their breasts. Common signs of breast ptosis include nipples that point downward or fall below the inframammary fold, stretched areolae, loss of upper-pole fullness, and significant asymmetry in breast position. The procedure involves removing excess skin, tightening the surrounding breast tissue, reshaping the breast mound, and repositioning the nipple-areola complex to a higher, more youthful location on the breast.

Several surgical techniques are available depending on the degree of ptosis. Mild sagging may be corrected with a periareolar (donut) lift using an incision only around the areola. Moderate ptosis is best addressed with a vertical (lollipop) lift, while significant sagging may require an anchor-pattern (inverted-T) incision. For patients who desire both a lift and increased volume, mastopexy can be combined with breast augmentation (implants or fat grafting) in a single procedure. Dr. Agrawal will recommend the most appropriate approach during your personalized consultation.

Procedures & Techniques

  • Periareolar (donut) mastopexy for mild ptosis
  • Vertical (lollipop) mastopexy for moderate ptosis
  • Anchor-pattern (inverted-T) mastopexy for significant ptosis
  • Nipple-areola repositioning and areola reduction
  • Combined mastopexy with breast augmentation (implants or fat grafting)

Recovery & Aftercare

Post-operative soreness is moderate and well-controlled with medication. A supportive surgical bra is worn continuously for 4–6 weeks. Sutures are removed at 1–2 weeks. Most patients return to work within 7–10 days and can resume light exercise at 3–4 weeks. Strenuous upper-body activities should be avoided for 6 weeks. Swelling subsides over 2–3 months, with final breast shape and scar maturation continuing for up to 12 months. Scars are initially pink but fade significantly over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a breast lift change the size of my breasts?
A standard mastopexy primarily changes the position and shape of the breasts rather than their size. Some patients experience a slight reduction in volume due to skin removal. If you wish to increase breast size, augmentation (with implants or fat grafting) can be combined with the lift. If you wish to reduce size, a reduction mammoplasty may be more appropriate.
How long do breast lift results last?
The results of mastopexy are long-lasting but not permanent — gravity and aging will continue to affect the breasts over time. Maintaining a stable weight, wearing supportive bras, and leading a healthy lifestyle all help preserve results. Most patients enjoy their improved breast contour for many years before any revision might be considered.
Can I breastfeed after a breast lift?
In most mastopexy techniques, the nipple remains connected to the breast tissue on a pedicle that preserves blood supply and milk duct function. Breastfeeding is generally possible after a breast lift, though some reduction in capacity may occur. If future breastfeeding is important to you, discuss this with Dr. Agrawal during your consultation.
