Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is the gold standard for long-term reduction of unwanted body and facial hair. At Amit Aesthetics in Aligarh, we use the Long Pulse Nd:YAG laser — a technology specifically chosen for its safety and effectiveness on all skin types, including the diverse skin tones common in India. Unlike older laser technologies that carried higher risks for darker skin, the Nd:YAG laser operates at a wavelength (1064nm) that passes safely through melanin-rich skin to target the hair follicle directly, making it the ideal choice for Indian patients.

The laser works by emitting concentrated light energy that is selectively absorbed by the melanin pigment within the hair shaft. This energy is converted to heat, reaching approximately 70 degrees Celsius at the hair follicle, which damages the follicle's ability to produce new hair without harming the surrounding skin. A built-in air cooling system protects the skin surface throughout the treatment, ensuring comfort and safety. Each pulse treats multiple follicles simultaneously, allowing large areas to be covered efficiently.

Most patients achieve 60-80% permanent hair reduction after a course of 4-6 sessions, spaced 4-8 weeks apart depending on the treatment area. Multiple sessions are necessary because hair grows in cycles, and the laser is most effective on hair in the active growth (anagen) phase. Treatment areas for women include the face (upper lip, chin, sideburns), underarms, arms, legs, bikini line, and full body. For men, common areas include the back, chest, shoulders, neck, and beard shaping. Pre-treatment preparation requires avoiding waxing, plucking, or threading for at least 2 weeks before each session — shaving is permitted as it does not disturb the hair root.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser hair removal provides permanent hair reduction — most patients achieve 60-80% reduction in hair growth after completing the recommended 4-6 sessions. The treated hairs are permanently destroyed and will not regrow. However, some finer hairs and dormant follicles may produce new hair over time, which is why occasional maintenance sessions (once or twice a year) are recommended to maintain optimal results.
Is laser hair removal safe for Indian skin?
Yes, the Long Pulse Nd:YAG laser we use is specifically designed for safe use on all skin types, including darker Indian skin tones (Fitzpatrick types III-VI). Its 1064nm wavelength bypasses surface melanin to target the hair follicle directly, significantly reducing the risk of burns, pigmentation changes, or scarring that older laser technologies posed for darker skin. Our extensive experience with Indian patients ensures safe, effective treatment.
How should I prepare for laser hair removal?
Avoid waxing, plucking, threading, or using depilatory creams for at least 2 weeks before your session — these methods remove the hair root that the laser needs to target. Shaving is permitted and recommended 1-2 days before treatment. Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2 weeks prior. Arrive with clean, product-free skin on the treatment area. Avoid applying deodorant to underarms if treating that area.
Is the treatment painful?
Most patients describe the sensation as a mild rubber band snap accompanied by a warm tingling. Our laser's built-in air cooling system significantly reduces discomfort during treatment. Sensitivity varies by area — underarms and bikini line tend to be more sensitive than arms and legs. For sensitive patients, a topical numbing cream can be applied 30 minutes before the session. Most people find each subsequent session more comfortable as the hair becomes finer.
