Vaginoplasty (Vaginal Tightening Surgery)

Vaginoplasty, also known as vaginal tightening or vaginal rejuvenation surgery, is a procedure designed to restore vaginal tone, strength, and function. The vaginal canal can become lax due to childbirth (especially multiple vaginal deliveries), aging, and hormonal changes associated with menopause. This loss of vaginal tightness can lead to decreased sensation during intercourse, reduced sexual satisfaction for both partners, and in some cases, functional symptoms such as urinary stress incontinence. At Amit Aesthetics in Aligarh, Dr. Amit Agrawal performs vaginoplasty with precision and discretion, helping women regain confidence and improve their quality of life.

The surgical procedure works by tightening the vaginal muscles (levator ani and surrounding pelvic floor musculature) and reducing excess vaginal mucosa (lining). Through a careful dissection, the stretched and separated muscles on either side of the vaginal canal are identified, brought together, and sutured securely in the midline. Excess mucosal tissue is trimmed and the incision is closed with absorbable sutures. This tightening of both the muscular layer and the mucosal surface produces a meaningful reduction in vaginal diameter and a significant improvement in vaginal tone.

The benefits of vaginoplasty extend beyond aesthetics. Many patients report greater physical sensation during intercourse and enhanced overall intimate satisfaction. Women with mild stress urinary incontinence may also experience improvement, as the pelvic floor tightening addresses the underlying muscle weakness. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under regional or general anesthesia and typically takes 1–2 hours.

Procedures & Techniques

  • Posterior vaginoplasty (vaginal muscle tightening)
  • Anterior vaginal wall repair
  • Perineoplasty (perineal body reconstruction)
  • Combined vaginoplasty and perineoplasty
  • Vaginal mucosal reduction

Recovery & Aftercare

Patients are able to walk within a day of the procedure. Mild to moderate discomfort and swelling in the treated area is normal for the first 1–2 weeks, managed with prescribed pain medication and cold compresses. Absorbable sutures dissolve on their own over 2–4 weeks. Most patients return to desk work within 5–7 days. Light exercise can be resumed at 2–3 weeks. Sexual intercourse must be avoided for a minimum of 4–6 weeks to allow complete internal healing. Full recovery and final results are typically achieved by 8–12 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a candidate for vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty is suitable for women who experience vaginal laxity — most commonly after vaginal childbirth — and who desire improved vaginal tone and sensation. Candidates should be in good general health, not currently pregnant, and ideally have completed their family (as future vaginal deliveries can reverse the results). A confidential consultation with Dr. Agrawal will determine your candidacy.
How long until I can resume sexual activity?
Sexual intercourse should be avoided for a minimum of 4–6 weeks after vaginoplasty to allow the internal tissues and muscles to heal completely. Dr. Agrawal will confirm when it is safe to resume intimate activity during your follow-up appointments. Most patients report noticeably improved sensation once they resume.
Is vaginoplasty performed under general anesthesia?
Vaginoplasty can be performed under either regional anesthesia (spinal or epidural) or general anesthesia, depending on patient preference and the extent of the procedure. Both options ensure you are completely comfortable during surgery. The choice of anesthesia is discussed and decided during your pre-operative consultation.
